Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My media product, being a comedy film trailer I believe heavily uses the forms and conventions of real media, a majority of comedy films are male dominated not just by cast but by audience, with exceptions to films such as "Bridesmaids" (2011) or "Juno" (2007) the most current comedies are more male focused. Some of these films being, "The Inbetweeners Movie" (2011) and "The Hangover" (2009) and "The Hangover Part II (2011) being a prime exapmle for the popular demand after its previous releases success.

My trailer uses this genre and comedic approach also, thus more using the conventions rather than challenging them.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
I think very effective, what I learnt from my ancillary texts contributed to the base of my final product. I was able to gain constructive criticism, develop tired ideas into new ones and learn how to use what I could to make the best product possible. Skills learnt via my ancillary texts all benefited into making my main product.

What have you leaned from your audience feedback?

Audience Feedback

Audience feedback definitely contributed heavily to the editing of my final cut trailer, in aspects including the volume of the dialogue, how fast paced it's edited, including different angles and choice of soundtrack.

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

To film my trailer I used a canon video camera

For steady cam shots I used a tripod

iMovie & Final Cut Pro via Laptop & iPad.

Cast log

Nathan (main character)
Nathan plays the role of the leader of the group of boys- his character boasts a dominant role and also the one who undertakes a more physical role in the film. Swell as being the joker he is also the one that everyone turns to in a sticky situation.

Ben (supporting role)
Ben portrays the character that would rather not be getting up to trouble but is a follower of the group so has to go along with everything they get up to, he is again a joker but in a more subtle quite way.

Danny (supporting role)
Danny like Ben is the subservient of Nathan however he is more of the encourager of bad thing, he also has the more bad mouth and dirty sense of humour, bringing an element of 'class' to the film.

Posters

I decided to look at the posters for the films I was inspired to base my trailer on.

The Inbetweeners Movie

I like the idea of putting my four main characters on the front in this laid-back way, it gives the feel that movie is really about them and their comedy not about action, fantasy or thriller. Its simple, to perhaps reflect their mediocre lives.

Agian I like the simplictiy of this -which is what I want my poster to be like, to not distract from the main theme, which is of the boys and their relationship.

Run, Fatboy, Run

Again I like the simplicity, however I feel this is too vibrant and happy for the tone of my film.

I like the mood of this for my poster, although I think it would lack the implication of comedy that the Inbetweeners Movie poster consists of.

The Hangover

Here much like The Inbetweeners poster it shows the cast relaxed - this is what I would like, it shows that the film is purely about them and only them.

Here I realy like the use of character quotes - infront of a serious yet simple picture it enhances the comedy. I think this is a technique I will use.

The Social Network

I decided to look at this poster as it uses the same quote idea as The Hangover - even though the writing is not a quote I like the idea of the writing and a simple picture.

Trailers like mine

The Inbetweeners Movie Trailer
The cutting of this trailer is something I would like to use in mine, it's faced paced which reinforces the wit/humour of the film. It also displays the atmosphere of the film as it makes it seem as though its quite an energetic and event-filled film.

Submarine Trailer
The lighting and the mood of this trailer is what I am aiming for my trailer to look like, the lack of colour that you see in the 'Inbetweeners Trailer' above is vibrant-suggesting a fun-filled, feel good movie, even though mine is a comedy, it is a black comedy, like submarine I want to bring realism into my film, for people to relate and belive in the story.

Run, Fatboy, Run
Again, like Inbetweeners, it is more of the comedic timing, editing and main subject in this trailer I want in mine, the desperate main character portrayed by Simon Pegg and the gritty, quick humour.

The Office Trailer
Although this is not a movie but is Ricky Gervais' highly successful British 'Mockumentory', it consists of aspects of key things I want in my trailer, its naturalistic surroundings, lighting and props, all contribute to the realism and dark comedy of the life of desperate nobody David Brent, played by Ricky Gervais.

The Hangover Trailer
This film consists of many of the apects featuring heavily in my film - the conventions of four main characters, getting into trouble, male-dominant film, aimed more at the male gender, one obvious leader of the group, woman are seen as not as fun as men with one exception.
